Ken is the Consultant Director of ArboristNZ LTD
Ken started his arboriculture career 20 years ago working as a forester for the National Trust Cliveden. After obtaining a degree in Geology and completing a stint in the transport business he went on to study at Merrist Wood College (UK) to become a qualified arborist. After a few years of hard yakka as an arborist/tree surgeon, Ken became a tree surveyor working for SJA Trees in London. He cut his teeth on large development projects, honing report writing and AutoCAD skills.
Passionate about the environment Ken went on to design, build and install tree air pollution barriers for a Mayor of London project at Greenwich while studying alternative arboricultural techniques. Training in i-tree ecosystem services, conservation arboriculture and studying and experimenting with the Stockholm Stormwater Tree Pit System Ken realised how high functioning trees can make a big difference. Qualifying in Prince2 project management Ken ran various urban greening projects while working as a freelance arboricultural surveyor/consultant for three AA Registered Consultants.
After moving to New Zealand in early 2017 Ken created GeoArb Ltd (now ArboristNZ Ltd) and moved with his whanau to Huntly. He picked up work for Higgins Contractors, Waka Kotahi and Waikato District Council. After a couple of years, Ken started working for an arboricultural consultancy in Auckland, becoming an expert witness for Watercare Huia WTP project, providing evidence for Auckland Council and writing many reports for Kainga Ora.
